All-new Maserati Ghibli Unveiled Ahead of Shanghai Debut
Ahead of its debut at Shanghai Motor Show, Maserati has officially unveiled the images of its upcoming four-door sports executive sedan. With the debut of the all-new Ghibli, the automaker expects to break new grounds in the automobile industry.
According to the available data from the automaker, the Ghibli will have a sportier character compared to the larger Quattroporte that was launched at the beginning of this year. Under the hood, the Ghibli will feature two turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engines, an eight-speed automatic transmission and both rear-wheel drive and the new “Q4″ all-wheel drive system.
The Italian luxury car maker said that the Ghibli will also become the first Maserati production car in history to be powered by a diesel engine, with a 3.0-liter V6 turbo-diesel. Maserati anticipates that Ghibli will play a significant role in its growth plan to sell 50,000 cars per year.
Ghibli is Maserati’s first sedan in this segment and reflects the company’s belief that a growing number of premium executive car buyers are looking to make an individual statement through a car that is distinctive, elegant and luxurious. It is also learnt that the Maserati Ghibli will be followed in 2014 by the Levante SUV and a new sports car to rival the Porsche 911, which Maserati is believed to be developing.
Though the automaker has not unveiled the pricing, it is anticipated that the vehicle will have a starting price tag of about $175,000.
